Method Ambassadors Gather at the Ranch for Colt Starting Clinic

The Downunder Horsemanship Ranch will soon be buzzing with excitement as Method Ambassadors arrive today for our annual Colt Starting Clinic. This 10-day, hands-on event is designed to challenge and advance each ambassador’s horsemanship in the ultimate training experience.

During the clinic, each ambassador will start two colts under the guidance of Professional Clinician Jeff Davis. The horses that come to the clinic will never have been saddled or ridden before. From the first groundwork sessions to the moment they swing a leg over their colts for the very first ride, ambassadors will demonstrate their knowledge and will be critiqued on their ability to start a colt.

Along with improving their skill set, the clinic provides an opportunity for ambassadors to earn additional certification to start colts for the public. Each time they successfully complete the clinic and receive certification, they are awarded a star with five stars being the highest accreditation offered. It’s Clinton’s way of recognizing ambassadors who are committed to excellence and continuing to refine their horsemanship skills.

Colt starting is one of the most rewarding and demanding aspects of horsemanship. What horses learn first, they learn best, so it’s important to put a solid foundation on them and build their confidence to set them up for a lifetime of success. Over the 10 days, ambassadors will be pushed to think critically, stay calm under pressure and communicate clearly with their horses.

We’re proud of the hard work these horsemen are putting into advancing their education and representing the Method. We wish all of the ambassadors attending this fall’s Colt Starting Clinic a great experience and the best of luck on achieving additional certification.
