New Hoof Care Tools Available from Downunder Horsemanship

Anytime Clinton discovers a tool that improves the lives of his horses and makes horse ownership more affordable, he thoroughly tests the product and then passes his discovery along to his customers. That’s why we’ve recently added new products to the Downunder Horsemanship store – RidersRasp and RaspNGo, handy hoof care tools that improve the overall health of the horse and save money. Cross Tie Equine Company, the innovators of the hoof grooming tools, designed the rasps based off the premise of conventional rasps, but created for the average horse owner to easily use.

Although conventional rasps are great tools in the hands of farriers, they’re difficult to master and often misused by nonprofessionals. While a conventional rasp requires two hands to maneuver, the RidersRasp and RaspNGo are comfortably held in one hand and their ergonomic handles with a non-slip grip protect the user’s hand from getting nicked by the rasp.

The RidersRasp is designed to round the hoof to promote balance and symmetrical hoof growth in between professional trimming intervals. The RaspNGo can be used for multiple purposes, including removing clinches before taking off a shoe, rounding edges to prevent splits and cracks, and addressing flares. Measuring 7 inches long by 1.5 inches wide, the RaspNGo is small enough to carry on the trail.

Both tools feature two rasps designed for everyday upkeep of the hoof – a medium file and a medium coarse file. The medium finish files are perfect for rounding the hoof to maintain overall hoof balance without the risk of removing too much hoof that comes with the use of a conventional rasp. The rasps are manufactured by Heller Rasps, a company that dates back to the 1800s and is recognized for offering the premier rasps in the hoof care industry.

Not only do RidersRasp and RaspNGo maintain balance in the hoof between professional trimming intervals, but they’re a great training tool to introduce young horses to stand for the farrier.
